Virginia Tech massacre. Eighteen-year-old Emily Jane Hilscher was one of the first two victims to be identified in the Virginia Tech massacre, along with 22-year-old Ryan Clark. The pair were neighbours in rooms 4040 and 4042 on the fourth floor of the West Ambler Johnston Hall dormitory where a gunman began the first of 33 campus shootings on Monday morning. Dressed more like a 'boy scout' than a mass murderer, he arrived at her dormitory room early on Monday morning. Another student, Ryan Clark, rushed to help after hearing his neighbour arguing with Cho. But the 22-year-old died alongside her. Detectives believe that Cho Seung-Hui was obsessed by 18-year-old student Emily Hilscher. More survivors told of the chilling scenes and miraculous escapes. One described the gunman's 'maniacal laughter' and said he had a 'serious but calm' look as he walked around looking for fresh victims. Students expressed disgust and disbelief at photos and a rage-filled video diatribe sent to a television network by the gunman who massacred 32 people at Virginia Tech university. Half-a-dozen Virginia Tech students gathered silently around a bank of televisions in the student center late on Wednesday watching images of Cho Seung-Hui posing with his guns and video of him ranting against rich kids and debauchery. Cho, a South Korean native, was in the U.S. as a resident alien with a residence established in Centerville, Va. Cho was living on campus in Harper Residence Hall. There are startling similarity between the most famous image (captured in publicity stills) in the recent Korean film "Old Boy" and the strangest image in the photos from Virginia Tech mass murderer Cho Seung-Hui. They both show an angry man with a large hammer drawn back and ready to strike. "The film centers on a seemingly ordinary businessman, Dae-su, who, after being mysteriously imprisoned, goes on an extensive, exhausting rampage, seeking answers and all manner of bloody revenge." Times reviewer Manohla Dargis referred to the film's "body count and sadistic violence." Woo Bum-Kon a Korean police officer who carried out the worst incident of spree killing in known history, killing 58 (including himself), and wounding 35 in Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea. Kim Dae-han killed 120 people in South Korea when he ignited a home-made petrol bomb in front of commuters on an underground train. Passengers were incinerated in sealed carriages as the inferno swept through two trains on the metro system in the southern city of Daegu, resulting in one of the world's worst underground rail disasters. Some of the casualties made desperate final calls to relatives on mobile telephones saying they were trapped and suffocating in the intense heat.
