Today we finished with the first state of development of our user module. This new feauture allows you to select your own favorite tags and surf the news that filled under them.
The next step is the addition of a “Save” feauture which will help you keep the stories you like most, for future reference.

“Our original intention when creating this site was to make a resource
for bloggers, but in the short time since we’ve launched it has become
much more than that,” states Nikolas Papanotas, founder of HumanWorks
and lead programmer. “The site is such a time-saving resource that
many visitors are returning daily and using the site as their primary
news source.”
Web 2.0 Announcer provides a list of the top stories from major social
and technology news outlets on the web. By combining news stories from
such highly-regarded sites as C-Net News and many of the wildly
successful social driven websites like Digg, YahooMyWeb and Furl; Web
2.0 Announcer provides only the most current and talked about news
stories on the World Wide Web. The site already gathers news stories
from a dozen such sources and will be continually adding more.
As the sources continue to grow, and the dailly ammount of news is getting bigger and bigger, I thought to create a system that will help you to see the top stories from each source in a seperate form.

Thanks to your feedback we added two more feeds to the web 2.0 announcer service.

Just finished with the web 2.0 announcer plugin for wordpress.
This small app will add web2announcer’s top tags (in a tag cloud form) in your blog’s sidebar.
You can see an example of the plugin in this blog (see the ‘Web 2.0 announcer top tags’ section in the sidebar)
If you want to try it download it from here, and see the instructions. The plugin is designed for people that have no web design skills, so don’t be afraid to use it if you are not a technical person

It seems that even the big social bookmarks/news services can’t deal with spam…
Today I saw a lot of spam entries mostly from del.icio.us and that makes me a little nerve.
So we have just added some filters and we hope in the next few days or week they will be able to make web 2.0 announcer a spam free resource
In addition this new module will help prevent topic duplicates (from stories that covered in multiple sources)
Today I realized that the Socializer module for google, is the top rated module at the google modules web site.
I would like to thank everybody who voted for our module, and I am really glad that you like it so much
After about 20 days of a ‘real mode’ test, and the correction of several bugs, we are starting the second development phase of web 2.0 announcer.
Some of the plans are to add some extra feautures for webmasters, and propably an API which will help developers to integrate their apps with web 2.0 announcer.
